Known as the Accursed Mountains, the Albanian Alps are wild, rugged and remote. Getting here is not easy but is absolutely worth the effort.
Whilst hiking the Albanian Alps you’ll be treated to breathtaking views, secluded mountain villages, thundering waterfalls, the blue eye springs and fields of wildflowers.
The Albanian Alps are one of Europe’s last remaining truly wild places and the best hiking in Albania.
This is one of the best places for hiking in southern Albania.
An afternoon spent relaxing on gorgeous Gjipe Beach will feel so much more rewarding after you’ve hiked through Gjipe Canyon to get there!
Hike through the canyon and you’ll find yourself surrounded by steep cliffs and lush vegetation as well as several incredible viewpoints.
Berat is a charming city that is worth a visit but it also has some great hiking opportunities nearby. Tomor Mountain is within an easy day trip distance from Berat.
The area is dotted with small villages and old churches, as well as plenty of opportunities to explore the great outdoors.
You probably wouldn’t associate a capital city with hiking but Tirana has some excellent hikes nearby.
The Bovilla Reservoir is a popular spot for locals to hike and is becoming more popular with those that are backpacking in Albania.
Another excellent hike near Tirana is Maja e Tujanit which is located near the Dajti Ekspress, the city’s cable car. It’s an under-the-radar hike so the trail is never crowded and you will get amazing views of the lesser-explored Dajti National Park.
