From watching the sunrise over the Acropolis and wandering through the Ancient Agora to spending an afternoon on Vouliagmeni Beach, eating far too much Greek food, and ending my evenings in the buzzing atmosphere of Monastiraki Square, Athens quickly became one of my favourite European city breaks.

Yes, the history is incredible, but what really made me fall in love with the city was the mix of ancient landmarks, lively squares, amazing food, and relaxed beach days. It felt like the kind of place where you could spend the morning exploring ruins, the afternoon swimming in the sea, and the evening sharing Greek food in a busy square as the city came alive.
As my first solo trip to Athens, it was a destination I’ll always look back on fondly, and somewhere I’d happily return to in a heartbeat.
